Women in Finance Career Workshop 2023
At Financial Edge, we’re passionate about ensuring women are well represented in financial services and are proud to have partnered with Female X Finance, one of Europe’s largest non-profit educational platforms dedicated to helping women break into and prepare for roles in finance.
On April 27th, 2023, we held our first Women in Finance Career Workshop in partnership with Female X Finance, open to all female university students (held at Northeastern University London). This workshop was designed to empower more women to embark on a career in the industry and equip students with a strong foundational knowledge of the main sectors in banking and the broad range of functions, roles, and career pathways available.
Financial Edge trainer and ex-Barclays Director Deborah Taylor kicked off the event with an interactive training session that covered topics including:
- Financial services overview
- Where and when to apply for roles
- Knowledge of the industry and firm
- Technical skills recruiters look for
- Role-specific behavioral skills
- Resources for continued education including Felix and more!
After the training session, we invited Liza Bayankina, a current female banker, for a live Q&A with the students to further de-mystify finance careers and break down the day-to-day activities and challenges you might encounter when pursuing a career in the industry.
It was great to see so many graduates and undergraduates in attendance, especially those who might not have previously considered a career in finance.
Not only was this a space to learn more about possible career paths, their respective required skill sets and practical tips on the application process, but it served as a perfect networking opportunity for like-minded students.
